All of us enjoy that latte, americano, mocha or
expresso coffee. We are so fussy and perfectly spoilt for choice!!
Till the time CCDs blossomed in our neighborhood,we had just two choices..Filter and Nescafe
A cosy sit-out for an evening coffee with
colleagues, a well tucked away corner perfect for coochie-cooing love birds;Mid-day meetings, late night snacks
and chat...and that self indulging sunday cold coffee, sandwich with a good
book.
The CCD coffee shops have become landmarks not just
on the face of the city, but very much a part of our memory maps.
And so one fine day the coffee king goes and kills
himself!
We hear his name for the first time.
And grab a cup of strong coffee to get a grip on
the news.
What prompted this dream merchant to finish his own
life
What was his situation
What was he thinking....
Could he not take a cue from the Mallya and Nirav
clan and run off to Timbuktu instead.
He had the perfect tagline....'A lot can happen
over coffee'
We did not realize how much can actually happen
over coffee !
And this is what makes us think about a young smart
dynamic entrepreneur, undisputed king of the coffee empire that took india by
storm and finally surrendering to Nethravathi river everything he ever was.
The obvious question is why?
What is the answer?
Did he stop loving his spirit?
Did he decided that no terms and conditions apply
to him?
There were loans, there were issues, there were tax
raids, the system traps...Debts, money lenders - the vicious cycle
But there was also family and friends and not to
forget his go-getter spirit that dreamt a successful business model based on a
cup of plain simple coffee.
What gave way, what broke him?
That he left his cup unfinished, and walked off from the table forever?
The answer goes with him!!
And all we can wish is..
May there be more like him
Yes we need the likes of him - who can provide a
safe cozy happy place in our over grown cities. A place where teenagers, office
goers as well as septuagenarians can sit and chill over coffee and
conversations.
I am sure Mr. Siddhartha is already busy planning
some outlets in good old paradise.
Spirits like him never die.
They just keep going on and on....
