Why do We perform “Aarti”?
"Aarti" = 'Aa' + 'rat', means from every dimension/direction
approach or move towards God. The real motive behind it is, while indulging into
any activity the focus should be on God and not into the surrounding world.
But, most of the times our attention is defocused and away from God.
Unless we surrender in real sense we can never fully approach
God. To highlight this, the Diya/Jyoti represents the God present in
everybody’s heart and the Karpoor (Camphor) symbolizes the means of real
surrender.
Camphor in its purest form is almost transparent, when burnt
leaves no traces behind. Camphor represents total surrender i.e Karmayoga.
Unless and until we burn the karma (actions); detach from the
good and bad; surrender all the actions and its result to God, we will never be
able to do a real aarti. To inculcate this in daily routine, “Aarti” serves as
a perfect reminder as well as means of surrendering to God.
Hence, while performing "Aarti", we stand in front of God and
all our senses get focussed on the God and move away from petty things.
