"Books are like treadmills on which our
minds can run endlessly" - Twinkle Khanna
These treadmills of knowledge have indeed
become indispensable in our lives. For this reason, on 23rd April
every year, we celebrate the world book day. Coined by the UNESCO to promote
reading, publishing and copyright, this event acknowledges the sheer importance
of these gold mines of facts. Books have
the power to relentlessly toy with our emotions to expand our horizon and
imagination. Believe it or not, books can even change our attitude and
behavior! This change never occurs
overnight, but is rather like the seasoning in a salad. Adding positivity, books always create a welcome
change.
Ever
wondered why a well-read person is always respected in a society? The fountain of learning gushes out when one
opens a book and disappears into a brand new world. I often get mesmerized
while reading a story book and it has shaped me into becoming the person I am
today. Devouring book after book gives me immense satisfaction.
Most people agree that reading is an
excellent hobby, but some make professions out of it by becoming authors, book
scouts, literary agents and so much more. The astounding diversity of books
enables almost everyone to reach them, regardless of nationality, gender and
geography.
The 23rd of April
is a symbolic date for the world of literature because it is the date of death
for many genius writers such as William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes and
William Wordsworth. Books teach us life lessons, which remain with us forever.
I keep on wondering why books are so close
to my heart. The answer is they are the best friends I have ever got. I have
traveled in times, in the world of magic, under the sea even on different
planets with them. In any season, at time of the day I have found them close to
my heart and I am sure our journey together will be on for ever.
