Why it's difficult to give 100% in whatever
you do?
It is a common
experience that while working towards a goal, the feeling that 'I could have
done better' is dominant. It is more prominently felt by students. What is it, that prevents one from giving 100% effort?
Going
back to the sea of wisdom; Bhagvad-Geeta chapter-2, 51st shloka has the answer:
In this shloka, Bhagvan Sri Krishna reveals the secret of
performing action (Karma) in the best possible way i.e. skillfully.
Endowed with the evenness of mind (samatva); a man of wisdom, is
released from both good and bad (Sukrut: Punya and Dushkrut: Papa). So
(Arjuna) devote yourself to Yoga; Yoga alone can bring the evenness of mind.
Yoga/evenness of mind is the skill of performing action (Karma).
The
message from this shloka is useful in every aspect of life because life is full
of actions. We hear a lot about Karma-Yoga but don’t know how to practice it in
real life. Any action/karma can reach its pinnacle if it is done with an
evenness of mind or Yoga-yukta mind; i.e. by performing Karma Yoga. A even/yogayukta mind is very focused and doesn't get perturbed easily. Whereas, when an action is done with maximum
emphasis on end goal/Karma-fala, it can never reach its completeness because most of
the energy is spent on thinking about future and not on the present righteous
actions.
Cool and
calm mind (even-mind) can do wonders but a worried mind is prone to mistakes.
Aplya rojchya jagnyat lagnarya tatvachi kup chan mahiti.
